2004 SCHOOL OF DESIGN
DESIGN EXCELLENCE EXHIBIT

Background
The School of Design is a premier institution of its kind. It has three nationally recognized and accredited programs in graphic, industrial and interior design. The School also has a long and enviable record of collaboration with the local professional design associations.

Last year the School hosted an annual Design Excellence Exhibit in the spring semester of the academic year. From all perspectives, it was a resounding success. For obvious reasons, the School wishes to repeat the event and, like last year, organize the Design Excellence Exhibit with the direct engagement of the local professional community.

Purpose
The Design Excellence Exhibit serves several purposes. They are:
  • To display design projects from the students in the three programs of study (graphic, industrial and interior design);
  • To inform the faculty of the college and the university as well as visitors about the activities of the three design programs;
  • To serve as a public event to celebrate what the School does well;
  • To involve the local design community in the activities of the School;
  • To recognize students whose work is deserving of recognition.
Involvement of the Local Professional Design Associations
An extremely important aspect of the Design Excellence Exhibit is the involvement of the local professional design associations. These are the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA), the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) and the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers (SEGD).
